Raheem Sterling is tackled by Malang Sarr

Chelsea travel to Manchester City for the Premier League kick off on Saturday knowing they really need a win to restart the title race. Pep Guardiola’s side have been relentless in the league of late and have opened up a 10-point lead between them and the Blues, so there is very little pressure on City to pull out all the stops for victory.

That said, they could really exert their dominance and earn a point from last year’s Champions League final if they take the game against Thomas Tuchel’s side and triumph to further increase their lead at the top.

In the middle of the week, it was Chelsea who triumphed in the semi-final of the Carabao Cup against Tottenham, to reserve a place at Wembley and wait for Liverpool or Arsenal. City, on the other hand, have had more than a week to recover since winning the FA Cup third round against Swindon. They have won seven straight in all competitions and 14 of the last 15, phenomenal form that has them aiming for another league title. Follow all the Man City vs Chelsea updates below:

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

Chelsea failed to attempt a first-half shot at the Etihad. It was the first time they failed to do so in a Premier League game under Thomas Tuchel and the first time overall since May 2018 against Newcastle.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

There were some great battles in the first half. Raheem Sterling driving Marcos Alonso – after the defender was shown an early yellow card – was probably the standout.

Chelsea’s attacking play has been non-existent, however, much to the frustration of manager Thomas Tuchel.

Half time: Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

45+1 min: Chelsea held on until half-time. It was a fairly one-sided 45 minutes in favor of Manchester City, but the Blues head into the break level.

Jack Grealish had the best chance of the half but Kepa Arrizabalaga made a good save to deny him the opening goal.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

42 mins: A scrappy period of possession for Chelsea sees them working hard just to keep possession instead of setting up a meaningful attack.

City get him back before too long and Cancelo puts him in the box for Grealish. He finds De Bruyne snatching a shot from the left and belting it well above the crossbar.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

39 mins: Luck! Probably the best chance of the half! Mateo Kovacic comes under pressure from Kevin De Bruyne deep in his own half and clears the ball with a loose pass to Jack Grealish. He knocks the ball into the box and tries to guide it around Kepa Arrizabalaga. The Chelsea keeper gets a leg on the shot and somehow deflects it off the right post.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

36 mins: City earn a throw-in in Chelsea’s half and send the ball past Phil Foden. He controls the ball and runs through a group of Chelsea defenders to get the ball into the box. He makes a dangerous pass in the middle of the area but has no teammate with him. Alonso collects the ball and wins a free kick after a small push into the back of Sterling.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

33 mins: Kevin De Bruyne floats the free kick towards the back post where Aymeric Laporte runs into the penalty area. He is followed by Marcos Alonso who arrives first at the ball and sends it for a corner.

De Bruyne swings that free kick into the penalty area but Antonio Rudiger is quickly in place for Chelsea to clear the ball with a header.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

30 min: Thomas Tuchel does not look like a happy man on the sidelines. He makes extravagant gestures to get his defenders up the field when Chelsea send the ball to their attackers. The Blues found themselves in a few good positions in City’s final third but were unable to put a final ball in the box.

Bernardo Silva clears from inside right and Mateo Kovacic dives from behind to stop the attack. He knocks Bernardo down and goes into the book for his tackle.

Manchester City 0 – 0 Chelsea

27 min: Close! Sterling tries to sneak around Alonso but is unsuccessful this time. Instead, he passes the ball inside giving it to Rodri. Rodri kicks the ball into the box towards Grealish who comes under pressure from Azpilicueta. The ball falls over the two players but Joao Cancelo arrives in the back and recovers the ball. He cuts it in the penalty area but Rudiger is there to eliminate the danger for Chelsea.
